Carmen McRae’s Live at Sugar Hill San Francisco offers a snapshot of her engaging stage presence and vocal finesse, captured during performances at the famed Sugar Hill Nightclub in 1962. This 1963 Time Records release highlights McRae’s warm, humorous delivery alongside pianist Norman Simmons and the rhythm section, bringing fresh life to jazz standards like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and "What Kind Of Fool Am I." The album reveals her ability to blend impeccable style with an intimate connection to the audience, making it more than just a collection of songs—it’s a conversation with jazz history. This vinyl pressing from 1963 presents the album in its original form, a neat piece for those who appreciate the era’s authentic live jazz recordings. The record is graded VG+, meaning it shows some light surface marks and minor scuffs typical of regular play but nothing that should overpower the listening experience.
