Nina Simone Sings Duke Ellington stands as a distinct tribute where Nina Simone’s nuanced arrangements meet the timeless compositions of Duke Ellington. The album flows through classics like "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me" and "It Don't Mean A Thing," revealing Simone’s ability to bring fresh emotional depth to well-known jazz standards. The presence of the Malcolm Dodds Singers adds a textured vocal backdrop that complements Simone’s expressive piano and vocal delivery, making this more than just a straightforward homage. This 1962 Colpix Records stereo pressing, produced by Stu Phillips and pressed by Monarch Record Mfg. Co., arrives sealed, ensuring a pristine listening experience for collectors and jazz aficionados alike. Its artwork by Maurice adds a visual elegance befitting the music’s sophistication. Since the record is still sealed, you can expect the vinyl itself to be untouched by play, ready to reveal the rich, intimate atmosphere that Nina Simone crafts alongside Ellington’s legacy. It’s the kind of record where the care in the pressing matches the care Nina took in her arrangements—a neat symmetry for a listening session that’s both focused and rewarding.
