Of Thee I Sing (Original Television Soundtrack Recording) captures Carroll O'Connor's portrayal of John P. Wintergreen in the 1972 CBS adaptation of this political musical satire. Alongside Cloris Leachman and Jack Gilford, O'Connor brings a theatrical blend of humor and social commentary to life, making this soundtrack a unique document of a television event that merged Broadway tradition with early '70s TV sensibilities. The album offers a chance to revisit that moment when a sitcom star stepped into the world of musical theatre, which isn’t a common career crossover and adds an intriguing layer to the listening experience. This 1972 Columbia Masterworks pressing on vinyl provides the original cast's performances in stereo, sustaining the era’s broadcast sound quality. The record is graded VG+, meaning it shows light signs of use such as minor surface marks or paper scuffs but remains well suited for regular listening without distracting noise. For someone interested in the intersection of television and musical theatre history, this record holds a solid place on the shelf—proof that sometimes the small screen can deliver a stage-sized performance, even if the needle occasionally has to navigate a few gentle bumps.
