Hamburger Concerto captures Focus at a moment of transition, introducing Colin Allen on drums after Pierre van der Linden’s departure. Recorded over the early months of 1974 at Olympic Sound Studios in London, the album blends intricate instrumental passages with melodic rock elements, offering pieces like “Delitiæ Musicæ” and “Harem Scarem” that weave classical influences into progressive frameworks. Its reach into the UK market, peaking at number 20, underscores the band’s appeal beyond their Dutch origins. The album’s title hints at a layered composition, much like the culinary complexity of its namesake, serving up a musical feast for listeners who appreciate both technical skill and melodic accessibility. This 1974 pressing on vinyl presents those detailed arrangements in stereo, making it a solid choice for collectors seeking that era’s authentic sound. Graded VG+, the record shows typical surface marks and light scuffs consistent with careful play but remains free from defects that would distract from listening. It’s an inviting copy for anyone wanting to explore Focus’s mid-’70s output without the distraction of harsh wear. Focus (2). Hamburger Concerto - Vinyl, LP, Album, Stereo.
