Hotline marks the J. Geils Band’s sixth studio outing, arriving in 1975 with a blend of rock and blues rock that captures the band’s energetic New York roots. Produced by Bill Szymczyk and Allan Blazek, the album features a clever nod to rock culture through the intro of one track, which gained a second life as the opening for the German Rockpalast events. Beyond the music, Hotline’s original packaging stood out with a pop-up book style design, inviting listeners to “pick up” the receiver from the printed telephone—a playful touch that adds a tactile element to the listening experience. The VG+ condition means you can expect light surface marks and minor scuffs typical of regular use, but none that should interfere significantly with enjoyment. It’s the kind of copy that fits nicely in a collection where the music matters more than a flawless sleeve, delivering the band’s spirited sound with character intact. Hotline’s packaging may have hung up on the usual gatefold, but that makes room for the music to dial right in. Available here as a vinyl record.
