Jimmy Dorsey- Dixie By Dorsey-LP

Jimmy Dorsey's Dixie By Dorsey captures the vibrant spirit of classic Dixieland jazz with a selection of lively standards like "Jazz Me Blues," "Panama," and "South Rampart Street Parade." Notably, "When You're Smiling" features vocals by Claire 'Shanty' Hogan, adding a warm, human touch to the band's energetic brass and rhythm sections. The album’s 1955 reissue on Columbia (CL 608) revisits the original 1949 10-inch LP with Jim Flora’s distinctive artwork lending a playful visual character that stands out among mid-century jazz releases—proof that even a record sleeve can march to its own beat. This 1955 pressing offers a solid vintage listening experience on vinyl that’s glossy and well-maintained, showing only minor surface markings unlikely to affect playback. For enthusiasts of traditional jazz or collectors interested in the era’s reissues, this copy provides both musical and aesthetic appeal.
