Jimmy Smith’s Crazy Baby puts his organ out front in a lean trio setting with Quentin Warren on guitar and Donald Bailey on drums. That compact lineup is a big part of the appeal: plenty of room for Smith’s dynamic organ playing, with Warren and Bailey keeping the hard bop framework tight. The set includes “Mack The Knife” and “A Night In Tunisia,” giving the record recognizable entry points alongside Smith’s Blue Note organ-jazz drive.
