Never Before And Never Again offers a unique glimpse into Marilyn Monroe’s vocal side, gathering recordings from her brief but memorable singing career. The collection features intimate renditions of songs like "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" and "Happy Birthday Mister President," highlighting a softer, more personal facet of the Hollywood icon. The album’s acoustic ensemble arrangements invite focused listening, making it a curious crossover for fans of classic vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald or Nat King Cole—though Monroe’s charm lies more in her persona than vocal virtuosity, which sometimes feels like catching a whisper in a room full of jazz legends. This 1978 vinyl pressing presents those moments with clarity that suits an evening of relaxed exploration rather than a high-fidelity showcase. The record is graded VG+, indicating it plays well with minor surface marks unlikely to interrupt the music’s intimacy. If you appreciate Monroe’s cultural imprint beyond film and glamour, this compilation offers a vinyl portrait that’s as much about nostalgia as it is about voice—a neat reminder that even stars have their quieter performances.
