Oliver Nelson – Taking Care Of Business

Oliver Nelson’s Taking Care Of Business came out on New Jazz in 1960, the same year it was recorded at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs. The session places Nelson on both tenor and alto saxophones, joined by Lem Winchester on vibraphone, Johnny “Hammond” Smith on organ, George Tucker on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums. That lineup gives the album a distinctive hard bop setup, with organ and vibes adding extra character around Nelson’s writing. The six-track set is mostly Nelson originals, including “Trane Whistle,” “In Time,” “Lou’s Good Dues,” and “Groove,” alongside Sonny Rollins’ “Doxy” and Cahn/Van Heusen’s “All The Way.” This is a 1960 mono Oliver Nelson vinyl pressing of Taking Care Of Business. The record is graded VG+, a strong everyday listening grade with a few light lines, sleeve marks, or small scuffs expected, but not wear that should dominate the music.
