Pure Prairie League’s 1980 album Firin’ Up captures the band at a moment when country rock was comfortably crossing into mainstream pop territory. With Vince Gill’s distinctive vocals and guitar work front and center, the record blends catchy melodies with polished arrangements, especially on tracks like “Let Me Love You Tonight,” which climbed to number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Adult Contemporary chart. The presence of David Sanborn’s alto saxophone and background harmonies from Kristine Arnold and Janis Gill add layers that make this album feel like a gathering of talented friends rather than just a studio project. The title itself could suggest the band was heating up their sound—and they certainly delivered on that front. This 1980 pressing offers a solid listen with vinyl in very clean condition, showing only minor surface marks that won’t interfere with playback. The LP’s glossy finish and well-preserved grooves mean it’s ready to take its place alongside other country rock and pop crossover gems. For those interested in the band’s evolution or the transition of country rock into the 1980s, this pressing provides a dependable snapshot without any surprises—just good, straightforward music from a group comfortable in their own blend of twang and pop. It’s a record that stakes its claim without needing to shout. Firin' Up - Vinyl, LP, Album.
