Ramsey Lewis – The Groover

Ramsey Lewis Trio’s The Groover captures a 1965 live set from the Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach, later released in 1972 on Cadet Records. The piano-bass-drums lineup features Ramsey Lewis with Eldee Young on bass and Issac “Red” Holt on drums, placing it in the classic trio format that anchors much of Lewis’s appeal. Producer Esmond Edwards adds extra jazz pedigree to the album’s 1972 release context. Musically, it sits in a cool, modal-leaning jazz lane, with the live club setting giving the record a direct period feel. At under $15, this is an affordable Ramsey Lewis vinyl LP with strong condition appeal. This 1972 vinyl pressing is graded VG++, meaning the record looks glossy and very clean overall, with only one or two very small light marks, sleeve scuffs, or faint lines expected.
