Santana – Caravanserai

Santana’s Caravanserai is where the band moved beyond its early Latin-rock breakthrough sound into a more instrumental, progressive jazz-fusion direction. Released in 1972 on Columbia/CBS, it was a transitional album for the group and the last Santana studio record to feature several key early members from that era. The lineup includes Carlos Santana, Neal Schon, Gregg Rolie, and Michael Shrieve, with percussion from José “Chepito” Areas and James Mingo Lewis, giving the record a deep rhythmic and exploratory core. This copy is a 1972 vinyl pressing, making it a nice vintage copy of one of Santana’s boldest early catalog turns. The vinyl is graded VG++, meaning it should be glossy and very clean overall, with only very small light marks, sleeve scuffs, or faint lines expected. At $14, this is an affordable Santana copy with especially appealing condition for a record that rewards close listening.
