This 1979 vintage vinyl pressing of Sugarhill Gang’s "Rapper's Delight" 12" single captures a landmark moment in hip-hop history. The track "Rapper's Delight" was the first rap single to break into the Billboard Hot 100 top 40, peaking at number 36 in early 1980. The Sugarhill Gang, formed in Englewood, New Jersey, the same year this single was released, helped introduce hip-hop to a broader audience by blending elements of funk, soul, disco, and boogie. While this was their only U.S. hit, the group maintained a presence in Europe through the mid-1980s and later reunited for tours starting in the 1990s.
