Round 2 by The Stylistics deepens the lush soul sound they helped define in the early '70s, with Thom Bell's signature arrangements weaving harpsichord, oboe, and French horn into a rich acoustic ensemble. Tracks like "I'm Stone In Love With You" and "Break Up To Make Up" reveal the group's smooth vocal harmonies framed by sophisticated production, while "Children Of The Night" adds a moody, focused listening moment. The presence of Larry Washington’s congas and Mary Gale’s harp adds subtle but distinct textures that keep the album from slipping into syrupy territory. This 1972 pressing offers a snapshot of The Stylistics at a creative peak under Bell’s careful direction, engineered by a team including Don Murray and Joe Tarsia. The vinyl here is graded VG+, so expect the kind of condition that suits regular play without distracting surface noise or skips. It’s a solid choice for anyone drawn to soul that balances polished elegance with organic musicianship—proof that sometimes an album’s second round can be just as compelling as the first.
