Ben Webster- The Warm Moods-LP

Ben Webster’s The Warm Moods captures the tenor saxophonist’s tender side through lush ballads supported by a string quartet arranged by Johnny Richards. Originally released in 1961 as Webster’s first album for Reprise Records, this set includes timeless standards like "Stella By Starlight," "But Beautiful," and "Time After Time," each highlighting Webster’s warm, emotive tone. The album stands out in his catalog for its elegant melding of jazz saxophone with orchestral textures, offering a gentle, intimate listening experience. This 1981 reissue on Discovery Records presents the album on vinyl with a clean, glossy surface showing only minor light marks typical of careful play. It’s a solid pressing that brings out the subtle interplay between Webster and the string arrangements. The record’s VG++ condition means you can expect very good sound quality with minimal surface noise, making it a fine choice for those who appreciate the softer, more romantic side of jazz saxophone.
