Billy Joel’s Piano Man stands as a vivid portrait of his early songwriting craft, blending rock, folk, and pop with an intimate, acoustic-driven approach. The title track “Piano Man” weaves storytelling and melody into a signature narrative that has become synonymous with Joel’s artistry. Contributions from Michael Omartian on accordion and arrangements by Omartian and Jimmie Haskell add subtle layers, while Eric Weissberg and Fred Heilbrun’s banjo work and Billy Armstrong’s fiddle broaden the album’s musical palette. The album’s artwork by Beverly Parker and illustration by Bill Imhoff complement the music’s introspective yet approachable character, making it a compelling listen for those drawn to focused, small ensemble performances. This 1973 vinyl pressing offers a chance to experience the album as it appeared early in Joel’s career, with engineering by Ron and Roy Malo contributing to its clear sound. The vinyl itself is in very good plus condition, presenting glossy surfaces with only minor, faint scuffs that won’t distract during playback. For collectors or listeners seeking a well-preserved copy of Piano Man in its classic format, this pressing is a straightforward way to keep a key moment of Joel’s catalog spinning. It’s the kind of record that reminds you sometimes the best stories are told over a piano—and a few banjos, just to keep things interesting.

Sound samples are included to help you get a feel for the music, but they may not always match the exact pressing or track version of the record listed. When in doubt, trust the photos and pressing information - that's the actual record you're buying.
