The set mixes McDuff originals like “Soulful Drums” and “Screamin” with covers including Nellie Lutcher’s “He's A Real Gone Guy” and Count Basie’s “One O'clock Jump,” giving it a nice bridge between soul-jazz drive and older jazz repertoire.
