Carly Simon’s Boys in the Trees offers a richly textured listen that blends intimate songwriting with an eclectic mix of acoustic instruments. The album’s layered arrangements include harp, marimba, and glass harmonica, alongside more familiar piano and synthesizer touches, giving tracks like "You Belong To Me" and the title cut a distinctive, almost chamber-music quality within a singer-songwriter framework. The use of tenor and soprano recorders adds a gentle, unexpected timbre that sets it apart from the typical late ’70s singer-songwriter fare. It’s an album that rewards close attention without demanding it, striking a balance between sophistication and accessibility. This 1978 vinyl pressing presents Boys in the Trees with a clean, glossy surface showing only light, superficial scuffs typical of careful play. The vinyl’s condition suggests minimal noise interference, making it well suited for those who appreciate the subtle instrumental details Carly Simon’s arrangements unfold.
