Damn Right I Am Somebody by Fred Wesley And The J.B.'s stands out as a tight, focused funk record where Wesley’s trombone leads a compact ensemble through grooves that balance raw energy with precise musicianship. Produced and written alongside J. Brown, and with James Brown’s involvement behind the scenes, this album blends punchy horn arrangements with rhythms that invite both attentive listening and an occasional nod of approval. Tracks like "Blow Your Head" and "Make Me What You Want Me To Be" showcase the band’s knack for layering complex funk rhythms without losing their infectious drive—proof that sometimes less is more when the beat’s just right. It’s a 12-inch LP that sits comfortably in any funk enthusiast’s rack, especially for listeners drawn to the era’s tight horn-driven grooves. If you appreciate the precision of a compact group that knows how to turn a phrase, this record delivers both the music and the kind of pressing that lets you hear it without distraction. After all, in the world of funk, it’s all about keeping the beat intact—no need to pay extra taxes on surface noise.

Sound samples are included to help you get a feel for the music, but they may not always match the exact pressing or track version of the record listed. When in doubt, trust the photos and pressing information - that's the actual record you're buying.
