The Mamas and the Papas – People Like Us

People Like Us became The Mamas and the Papas’ final studio album, released in November 1971 to fulfill a Dunhill Records obligation after the group’s original 1968 split. That post-split context gives the record a different pull from their best-known ’60s work, making it an interesting closing chapter in the group’s studio catalog. Due to Cass Elliot’s illness during the sessions, her vocals are less prominent here, with Denny Doherty and Michelle Phillips carrying most of the lead vocal work. Musically, this 1971 vinyl pressing falls into the group’s folk-rock and pop-rock side, with enough late-period context to make People Like Us a worthwhile title for anyone filling in The Mamas and the Papas vinyl shelf. The record is graded VG++, meaning the vinyl is glossy and very clean overall, with only one or two very small light marks, sleeve scuffs, or faint lines expected.
