Tom Browne’s 1980 Love Approach stands as a smooth jazz-funk statement featuring the talents of bassist Marcus Miller and electric pianist Bernard Wright, with production by Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen. The album’s groove-driven sound found particular success with “Funkin’ for Jamaica (N.Y.),” which held the top spot on the U.S. R&B chart for three weeks, marking a high point in Browne’s career. The record blends tight musicianship with infectious rhythms, making it a solid pick for anyone exploring the intersection of jazz and funk from this period. This pressing from 1980 offers a straightforward presentation on vinyl, ideal for those who want to experience the album as it circulated around the time of its release. Graded VG+, the record shows typical signs of use such as light surface marks and minor scuffs, but these are unlikely to interfere significantly with playback. It’s the kind of groove that keeps busy fingers tapping and casual listeners nodding—just the right balance between funk energy and jazz finesse, without demanding a special place on the shelf.
