The Temptations- Cloud Nine-LP

• Format: LP
• Label: Motown, Motown Record Corporation
• Catalog number: M5-159V1
• Country: US

Cloud Nine marked a bold chapter for The Temptations, as producer Norman Whitfield steered the group into a funkier, more psychedelic soul territory that challenged the Motown mold. The title track "Cloud Nine" and their take on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" stand out as vivid examples of this shift, blending tight vocal harmonies with a rawer, groove-driven sound that helped redefine their identity beyond classic soul. This 1981 vinyl pressing offers a chance to revisit that transformative moment on a format that suits the album’s rhythmic complexity—proof that even well-tuned groups can evolve without losing their harmony. This near-mint copy delivers exceptionally clean vinyl that promises minimal surface noise and excellent playback clarity, making it well-suited for focused listening sessions. The pressing year places it comfortably after the original release, so it’s a solid choice for collectors who want a clean, later edition without chasing earlier, potentially played-out versions. The small ensemble interplay here is as crisp as the vinyl, so whether you’re drawn by Dennis Edwards’ gritty edge or Eddie Kendricks’ falsetto charm, this record holds together with the precision of a well-rehearsed ensemble. It’s a record that’s as much about progression as it is about groove, and this pressing keeps that spirit intact.
